Welcome to LA Grammar Shop & More
A full service academic enrichment and support Shop where progressive ideals and traditional values come together to help students reach their potential and goals. Teaching is as much about connection as it is about content. Every student learns differently, bringing unique curiosity, skills, and challenges. My strengths as an educator emanate from an ability to recognizing how every individual learns differently, and then to create a program that balances challenge with support to foster independence.
Once dubbed a "forensic educator," I specialize in identifying learning nuances and adapting instruction to fit diverse needs. Throughout my career—spanning multi-age classrooms, project-based learning, and STEM—I’ve taught everything from third grade to high school extension programs working with students of all abilities and expectations. I look for strengths and teach students how to apply them to their “stretches.” Instructional strategies seek to develop skills and scaffolding that can adapt to different subjects and learning environments. I help students figure out how they best learn, and how to navigate challenges with confidence and a plan.
One of my heroes and mentors, John Wooden said, “Small details build to big ideas,” a philosophy that shapes my teaching. Blending experience with evolving methods, I use storytelling, metaphor, and conversation to make learning meaningful. With an eye for detail and a deep well of experience, I help students find their own paths to success. As a progressive educator with traditional roots, and over three decades of experience I am uniquely equipped to support your student in myriad ways.

I began my teaching career in 1990, writing my name in yellow chalk on a green board. Education has evolved dramatically since then, but the core of learning—synthesis, connection, and growth—remains unchanged. For 35 years, I’ve guided students from elementary to high school, specializing in project-based learning, writing, math, and test preparation. Having taught almost every subject from a third grade self contained classroom, to AP US history I have enjoyed a career of depth and breadth. A graduate of Harvard School of(Harvard-Westlake) and UCLA, I earned credentials in English, Social Studies, ESL, and Math from San Jose State and launched my career as a longterm substitute. The variety and diversity of my assignments over the years has broadened my ideas about education, and I have become student- focused, learning to adapt and subtly change strategies to meet individual needs.
About Bradley Gilbert
After almost thirty years in the classroom it was time for a new challenge, and so I founded The Grammar Shop and More, offering academic support tailored to individual learning styles. I named it “The Grammar Shop” because I have always taught writing from a grammatical perspective, and almost mathematical approach to writing that recognizes that words and building blocks governed by basic rules while still allowing room for personal style. The “and more” refers to math, a language unto itself universal, so I have always added a language element to math so that students learn not just what happens but also how and why. Education is different for everyone and I understand that success isn’t just about mastering content—it’s about building confidence and leveraging strengths in search of goals and objectives. My Shop serves to help students discovery their best learning selves and reach those goals.
